A model of a city made by residents to address local challenges. This model, created during a 1-day workshop in Gaza with local women, imagined an alternative city with upgraded infrastructure, safety, and sustainability. The women made their own model from recycled materials, envisioning solar-powered street lamps and pedestrian hubs. The models focused on three areas: safety (the risks associated with moving through urban space); sustainability (how we can create more environmentally sustainable, pedestrian-friendly, and healthy neighbourhoods); and social justice (how we can reimagine cities around women’s experiences).
